Yes.

Who needs time to play games anyways?

School, the effective institution of gaining knowledge by ineffectively gaining knowledge.
"The number of U.S. service members who have died in Iraq since the end of the major phase of the war now surpasses the toll in the first phase of the conflict. ... The number of war dead after the major conflict was declared over May 1 by President George W. Bush is now at 139, surpassing the 138 U.S. service members to die during the first phase of warfare." Comics: Jim Lee's Batman

Hot damn, some hot comic readings are to be had for one and for all when Lee's in the saddle under pen and pencil. Great stories even for the uninitiated. A good starting point for someone who's been outta bat's universe for awhile and wants to just read from here. Ok, so not SO great given the books garner almost 20 bucks sometimes online. At least for the first few. The set starts at Batman #609 and concludes in a 3-cover finale at 619. Thus far we have been taken back and revisited classic bat-villains. Ish 618 JUST came out yesterday but ive not picked it up yet. I can tell you right now though, if there was a 24/7 comics shop around here id be there.

    XBox: Ghost Recon: Island Thunder

What is there to really say now that ive not said about this amazing game before? Well how about a dozen new multiplayer maps, many new and returning weaps and a handful of maps that were fan favorites from the original. Namely the Embassy. W00t. Oh, its also 39.99 which is rather nice of UbiSoft. Id have to say that the single player, though i knew it was short, wasnt as much of a challenge as i thought it was going to be. What i really dig is the fact all of the levels are better online as scimage maps than they ever were as campaign modes maps. A few bugs here and there are also fixed. Noted: the bug where dickheads are online at the same time as cool players seems to still be a problem. Stats are now kept on each account.

    DVD/Film: Punch Drunk Love

Why is it that Paul Thomas Anderson makes great fucking movies every once and awhile yet gems like well, everything the Olsen twins are in turns gold? Amazingly well thought out and nothing is left to chance in this tight romance story that could only be told right by PTAnderson.
    DVD/Film: Adaptation.

Wow. See it. I cant really say anything about it. Just see it. Have you seen it yet? Then GO!

    Drag-on Dragon vid

    Sega Ages mix ad vid
Good hot damn. Now this is real race driving!

    DVD/Anime: Macross Zero

I know, i know, its another anime prequel of a legendary series but this time its decent! CG mixed with cel animation seems to be the norm these days and Shoji Kawamori dances the two same mediums into amazing choreographed flight scenes. Really good stuff. Roy Foker is nutz in this.

This year is NO exception...

I feel funny in my special spots
8/15/2003 Mon 5:15 PM

Ok, im a little confused. Ok. Wait. Yeah. Ok... So Elvis had this kid, right? Her name is Lisa Marie and shes quite the hottie. Ok. Backup. Wait, shes HOT, right? I mean. Its WEIRD cause she looks like a female version of ELVIS. Then theres this shit about her and Michael Jackson being married and stuff. I mean shes amazing looking but it feels so dirty to think about it... Like i just watched a Mary-kate and Ashley movie but on not against my will.

CD Album/Music: FooFighters: One on One

This one hasnt left my CD player all month.

Gamecube (import): F-Zero GX (first impressions)

Theres this friend of mine who just picked up Z-Zero on the import. To keep his identity a secret ill call him 'Frank'. Frank has been known to splurge and buy games import just before they come out in America [bb:what about viewtiful joe, ninja? hmm?|]. F-Zero while being a damn near perfect racer is only a week and a few days away yet he made it a point to pick it up at a higher tag just cause waiting was unbearable. He shelled out 70 bucks to pick up a game that will be under 50 when it comes out on the 26th. Well, after playing the game too i would have done the same thing. Hell, 70 bucks seems kinda low! But nobody is complaining. Amusement Vision/Sega and Nintendo did us one proud with this worthy addition among a bevy of other classics reborn on the GC. While adding the ability to customize your own racer to our own specs and taste the harder to find parts and upgrades will only be available at your local arcade. What you do is bring your GC memory card to any F-Zero AX machine, race with your custom car, save new stuff to your memory card, bring home, finish customizing car, eat occasionally. The FMV cutscenes are well done and a treat between levels. The action is faster than its ever been in the series so the time it takes inbetween challenges is fairly quick but satisfying. There were a bunch of other modes too which i didnt get a good look at but one thing is for sure, i cant wait for this one.

OK, so its like this - I recently found out that True Crime, that one spossed to be better than GTA3 game for XBox, GC and PS2, also happens to have a stellar voice talent cast! Christopher Walken, Michael Madsen, Russell Wong, Michelle Rodriguez, Ron Perlman, CCH Pounder, James Hong, Mako, and Keone Young!! Ok, so i dont know who the hell CCH Pounder or Mako is but everyone else speaks for themselves. (insert stupid voice actor pun here). Designed by Luxoflux those blokes who put together Vigilante8 and that horrid StarWars Demolition game, this game looked like it would play better as a frisbee but now with WALKEN and OLDMAN on the roster... FUCK, ill playa the dumb game just for THEM. Oh, and im sure there shooting and looting and whatever else you do in the game will be swell too. Whatever.
    Ohdeargodyes!

Who here doenst have a NeoGeo pocket Color yet, one of the best handhelds for the hardcore? Well, here is your chance to redeem yourself. EB games is going to start reselling the system and games in bundle packs. All, i repeat ALL of the games in these packs are MUST owns too. 39.99 for a pack of 4 games. 79.99 for the system and 6 games.

For Shin: This is True Fantasy.

    Movies: The Italian Job

Good dumb fun. Maybe worth owing. Lots of un-needed stuff thrown about. Fun to watch nevertheless.

My Dog is Foot Crazy
8/4/2003 Mon 5:15 PM

I always thought that Dog training was suppose to help, you know, train your dog or something. What it does turn out to be is a place for your dog to just run around hog--ass wild instead. The first thing the trainer said when he saw Koko, the canine of mass destruction, was "Oh my GOD. I didnt know he was THAT big!". I want my hindered bucks back too. While you are at it could you ask Bioware and Lucasarts to give me my life back too? Knights of the Old Republic is so chock full of interesting shiny things that it takes the place of sleeping AND eating. Amazing. Put me down for two. Got a chance to play some SNK vs Capcom: Chaos at the arcades and ive learned one thing and almost one thing only: Mars People requires little to no skill to make it's user a total fucking penis. The game seems alright, but like the first CapSNK its rough and unbalanced in places. That is unless you are using an SNK person. This must be SNK's "Fuck you" to cap for castrating alot of the SNK people in CapSNK2. Ive seen all the hidden people except FireBrand and Athena and everyone and everything is super animated.

    DVD/Anime: FLCL vol 3 Collectors Box (eps5 and 6)

So what if i already own the HK version and seen this series a few dozen times through? I had to have this one. The collectors box offa DVDBoxoffice.com was about the same price as the vanilla version at Best Buy too :) Limited to 10,000 copies i really thought it would be more difficult finding one. A buddy of mine pre-ordered two copies just in case. One for he, one for me. The print on this disc is excellent - suffering very little artifacting that cel animation has an affinity for. THe liner notes are of course excellent and the director's commentary is always a joy to listen to. If i havnt recommended this series to you guys a hundred times yet then im doing a disservice to Gainax and KGI. Concluding the 6 episodes these two have to be my two favorites after the first.

    Gamecube (import): Viewtiful Joe

Hard as hell. Youve never seen cel shading till you've seen this game. Bosses are controller-breakingly hard.

NEW Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles vid.

DVD/Anime: His and Her Circumstances vol 1

Ah man, where's Yoshiyuki Sadamoto! Still, this anime is interesting. Someone said that HaHC(kareshi kanojo no jiyo) is a "relationship dram-medie" as Neon Genesis Evangelion is simply a "Robot Anime". It has that same early 80's esthetic to it like Evangelion. Only with CG here and there. A little drawn out from time to time but interesting. I really got hooked into the characters about 3 eps in. It took that long. Though there are 6 eps on one disc it seems like its not enough.

    Movies: Bad Boys 2

Things explode sometimes without reason but its one hellava watch. The usual wit and repoire between Lawrence and Smith still shines. Note: Bitching level in dialog is surprisingly high. Bring along earplugs. Altogether a fun watch and as a fan of the first this one didnt disappoint. Bruckheimer to the core.

The new site design looks kinda like... my ass!
8/2/2003 Sat 3:09 PM

Did I mention my ass is absolutely gorgeous? No matter!

    Movies: Pirates of the Caribbean

This movie was awesome. I really just enjoyed the whole thing. Geoffrey Rush plays a good bad guy, and Orlando Bloom plays a good... non... Legolas... part. The story had a few twists, and the characters were all very likeable. All in all... I enjoyed myself a lot. Oh... and I hear Johnny Depp... had... something to do with it too. Whatever.

PS2: Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits

Wow... I bought this game because I just felt like playing an RPG. I actually didn't expect it to be so good. It has a pretty good story and the battle system is fun... kind of a twist on a tried and true system. The only thing that bothered me is the menu layout. It's hard to tell what the best item to equip is... just because the numbers tell how much the item improves your stats as if you were naked. So you kinda have to go back and forth. But... that aside... it's a very solid, and very fun game. I recommend!
